Lady Panthers fighting for rematch
Wayne throws no-hitter against Fox Creek
McBEE – The first two games in the upper state playoffs have brought unusual occurrences for McBee’s varsity softball team.
The team lost to Chesterfield 2-1 in a nine-inning game decided by a pass ball, and pitcher Callie Wayne threw a no-hitter against Fox Creek in the second round en route to a 10-0 victory in five innings.

Red Foxes fall short in district
The Red Foxes took to the diamond on Wednesday afternoon against Wando only needing to win one game in the schedule doubleheader. They had already defeated Wando 10-2 in the two teams’ first meeting.
Both games were hard-fought, but Hartsville fell 2-1 and 6-3.

Foxes show teeth in first rounds
The Hartsville varsity baseball team rolled into the state playoffs as a number two seed and number two in the state. They have shown their determination winning both games.
They defeated Wando 10-2 Thursday night at Jimmy White Park and defeated RidgeView 6-5 in a come-from-behind win on Sunday afternoon.

The 2008 state playoffs began Thursday night for the Foxes as they played host to Wando at Jimmy White Park.
The regular season came to an end last week with a victory over region foe Sumter. The Foxes, 7-1 in region play, and then had to wait for the outcome of the Conway/Sumter game to learn their fate in the region.

Four local teams get at least a share of region title.
The 2008 spring sports season has certainly brought quite a bit of press coverage and notoriety to the area due to the sharp play of several local teams. The area has three, possibly four, region champions. Hartsville has a share of the Region VI AAAA title; Lamar won the Region 7 Class A title, and Darlington softball has finished as the Region V AAA champion.

Lyles blasts Foxes into region title
Win gives Foxes at least a share in the region title, home game for playoffs
The Red Foxes baseball team has been ranked number one in Class AAAA state for most of the year. Their final game of the regular season was probably the most important. They faced Sumter in a game that would decide Hartsville’s fate in the playoffs. They defeated Sumter 4-3. The game also honored all of Hartsville’s seniors for senior night.
Sumter started the game quickly scoring a run in the first inning against pitcher Jordan Lyles. They scored another in the third and held Hartsville 2-0.

Hartsville nips McBee on the diamond
The Lady Foxes and Lady Panthers met for the second time this season on the softball diamond Thursday night. They opened their respective seasons against each other with a game that featured many errors and walks. This game was a little different. Hartsville came from behind and won the game 4-3.
Michael Gainey took the mound for the Lady Foxes and pitched against McBee’s Callie Wayne.

Red Foxes pound Bruins
The number one-ranked high school baseball team in the state notched another win Wednesday night. The Hartsville High School Red Foxes kept up their stellar play this season by defeating the Lancaster High School Bruins after the game was stopped in the bottom of the fifth with a 10-0 score.
Jordan Lyles started the game for the host Red Foxes and continued his strong mound performance this season.
