Graveside services for Christine Rivers Brooks, 74, widow of Billy Brooks, will be held at 2 p.m. today, May 7, 2008, in Darlington Memory Gardens directed by Norton Funeral Home.
Mrs. Brooks died Monday, May 5. She was born in Hartsville a daughter of the late Ross and Mary Davidson Rivers. She was a charter member of North Hartsville Baptist Church. She and her late husband Billy, owned and operated Brooks Lawn & Garden for more than 30 years.
Surviving are grandchildren, Billy and Zim Brooks of Hartsville, Crystal Hodge of Darlington; daughter-in-law, Cheryl Brooks of Hartsville; great-grandchildren Ariana, Briana, Caleb, Delaney Hodge of Darlington, Billy Brooks II, Dakota Brooks of Hartsville. Mrs. Smith died Sunday, May 4. Born in Darlington, she was a daughter of Louise Langston Adams and the late Willard Adams. She was a member of Antioch Baptist Church where she worked in the nursery on Sunday and Wednesday. She was an owner of Top Quality Lawn Care LLC, worked at Quiet Brook Produce, Uncle Bert’s Produce and PIM Farms for many years. She loved pets, kids, and was a devoted wife and mother.
Surviving are her husband of 28 years, Derrick Smith of Hartsville; son, Reagan Smith of Hartsville; daughters, Kristen Smith of Hartsville, Jarrett Smith of Hartsville; sisters and brothers-in-law, Pat Blackmon of Darlington, Joyce and Gary Jones of Darlington, Jeanne and Von Tolson of Lamar, Faye Dixon of Darlington, Denise Poole of Dovesville; brothers and sister-in-law, Richard and Lou Adams of Dovesville, Danny Adams of Dovesville; mother-in-law, Amelia Smith of Hartsville; special friend, Debbie Vazquez of Hartsville. She was preceded in death by her father, Willard Adams, and her sister, Gail Griggs.

Pauline, the daughter of the late John Gabriel and Mary Eliza Jones Denny and the wife of the late Thomas Daniel Jenkins, was born in Hartsville on Sept. 4, 1915. She was a lifetime member of the First Presbyterian Church, graduated from Coker College, helped her father in and later managed Denny Brothers Jewelry Store, and taught in Darlington County Schools. For many years she was a Pilot Club member and hospital volunteer, and for all of her years she wanted to be a true friend to those she met.
She was predeceased by her husband and by her brother Charles Edward Denny. Surviving are many relatives blessed by her life; among these are her sister-in-law, Rue Denny; nieces and nephews, Mary Esther Denny, Pat and Jerry Burkett, John and Neita Denny, Joy and Randy Seif, Jackie Ray and Phil Anderson.
