The Coker College men’s basketball team began the 2008-09 season with a 80-59 win over Division I Coastal Carolina, a game that head coach Dan Schmotzer said was a joy to watch. “We have really a nice team coming back from last year,” Schmotzer said. “This is a team that really has some ability, some tremendous character, and they really get along well.”

Hartsville High varsity boys’ basketball coach Aric Samuel said at times it appears the Runnin’ Red Foxes are a wanted team. “It seems like something is marking us that we are going to get every team’s best effort.”

Scott a true team player

The Hartsville High varsity football team will look toward 2009 after the 2008 season ended on Friday.
Leading the charge next year will be current junior running back Dre Scott, who also led the 2008 rushing attack for the Foxes.
And Scott likes the challenge.

The Second Annual Black Creek Christmas Shoppe is on track to open Thursday, Dec. 4, with an opening reception.The opening reception will be held from 5 - 7 p.m. on Dec. 4, at The Black Creek Arts Center, which is located at 116 W. College Ave.
Al Haynes will play Christmas music to keep everyone in the holiday mood. Holiday decorations will be provided by Sweet Peas. Refreshments will be served by the Women’s League.

Relay For Life of Darlington County will kick off the 2009 season on Tuesday, Nov. 18. The event will be held at the Lakeview Club, beginning at 6:30 p.m. The 2009 theme is “Relay Rodeo.”

Life after 50 is grand. At least that’s what members of the Red Hat Society are saying. Members of the Hartsville Recreation Department Red Hat Society took advantage of not having to get up and go to work, to leave on their pjs for a jaunt to Lawton Park for an old-fashioned pajama party this week.
The ladies watched a movie, “The Devil Wore Prada,” ate popcorn and other snacks and shared a morning of laughs.
